World Time Watches: What is GMT?

May 16th, 2012 | 1 Comment

GMT, or Greenwich Mean Time, is an absolute time reference that does not change with the seasons.

So what does this mean for a GMT, or world time, watch?

Basically, it means that a GMT watch is able to display multiple time zones on a single dial. Most often, a GMT watch is able to display two or three different time zones at once, but it’s possible for certain GMT feature watches to track 24 or more time zones.

What are the benefits of a GMT watch?

A GMT watch may not be for everyone, but it’s a great choice for people who travel a lot, have friends or family abroad, or work for an international company. The GMT feature allows the watch wearer to immediately read multiple times, which many GMT watch wearers have praised for its convenience.

That, and the GMT watch complication just looks pretty cool, too.

Do any Orient watches feature a GMT complication?

Orient features a number of GMT function, dual time zone watches including the Star Seeker. Part of the Orient Star collection, the Star Seeker, is available in white DJ00002W or black DJ00001B, and contains Orient caliber 40P51 automatic movement.

In addition to these features, the Star Seeker is also equipped with:

  • Scratch resistant, anti-reflective sapphire crystal
  • 40-hour power reserve indicator
  • 100m water resistance
  • Stainless steel case and chain link band
  • Date calendar
  • 1-year international guarantee

Orient’s other GMT watches include the Explorer, Voyager, and Constellation. Visit Orient Watch USA to learn more about these unique watches.
