Why Buy… an Orient Mako Watch?
April 4th, 2010 Posted in Orient News | 8 Comments | Comment and Win a Free Orient Watch Comment and Win a Free Orient WatchWith 9 style and color variations to choose from, you can’t go wrong with the Orient Mako watch. Time and time again, reviewers have applauded the Mako for its value, durability and style.
For example, ABlogToRead‘s Ariel Adams’s review of the Mako said there “are few very watches at this price level with…wide brushed steel links [that] have a high quality feel, and aren’t too thin either (yes, I am talking to you Seiko)”.
But the Orient Mako watch is more than a nice bracelet—it has many features that have led it to earn its reputation as a quality automatic.

Read on for why to buy the Mako:
The Orient Mako is a Dive Watch
To be classified as such, diving watches must have a minimum water resistance of 100m (the Mako is water resistant up to 200m).
They also must comply with ISO standards and meet certain criteria, including having:
- Thick cases. Because dive watches must resist corrosion and water pressure, watch cases are typically made from durable materials such as titanium, plastic or stainless steel.
- Smart shock protection. This allows the watch to tolerate some level of magnetic shock.
- A way to keep track of overall dive time. One common way to do this is a rotating bezel. The watch wearer aligns the zero on the bezel with one of the watch’s hands, saving the diver the need to remember the initial hand position.
- Great readability. Reading conditions underwater are far from ideal so diving watches have clearly marked numbers, minute markers and hands that are coated with luminous material.
Since you wouldn’t want your watch to stop working in the middle of a dive, another useful watch feature is a power reserve indicator.

Orient’s Mako has Impeccable Style
The solid stainless steel bracelet mentioned earlier has great fit and feel, but also looks great on any wrist. Its crisp silver color accentuates the color of the watch face.

The Orient Mako watch comes in 6 different watch dial colors, and all of them are stylish and sleek. Choose yellow for a bold statement, black for executive sensibility, or blue and red for classic versatility.

There is only one Diver watch (the 300m) that has a Power Reserve and it’s not a Mako? Guys, you are supposed to know, you are the experts. Please revise your article it lies and that’s something you shouldn’t do to your customers. By the way, I love Orient watches, have already 2 and 3 more in delivery, the value you get for your money is unmatched, the quality for the price unbeatable.
So long,
Ralf

I totally agree.
The 300m saturation diver doesn’t even resemble the Mako:
-only day of month, therefore only one crown
-date is on the left, Mako has it on the right
-power reserve indicator
-the Mako has numbers on it’s dial
…
You should at least pretend to know what you are writing about.

I just received my Orient Mako (black dial). The quality and style far exceeds what I had expected. I’ll have to research whether the metal bracelet can be removed for times I would like to have a leather band attached.

Hello!
I have a Orient Mako EM65004B for just 7 days. I like it very much.
I am interested of technical details of this watch. I am on the best way to become a mechanical Orient watches lover.
The first 4 days the Mako goes +8-10 s/24 hours. Then, suddenly it runs +15 s/24 h. Is it normal?
I experienced that Mako is a very loved watch. But I think I am the only one with a Mako in the city. And it isn’t an other one in the shops. Wrong marketing?
I have a rubber band and I like to have a metal bracelet for exchange.

I think it would be cool if Orient offered a NATO strap version of the Mako. If I every got one it would be the first thing I did with it anyway.

Orient mako divers watches are a great value for the money. Very few automatic watches use thier own in house movements, and orient has been doing it for over 50 years. Not to mention that thier styling is not imitating anyone. Thier rugged and Beautiful. I only wished they used sapphire crystals.
