We feel that there are all different kinds of instances in life that require a trusty timepiece (because why not?). This is just one of them. Introducing “What to Wear and How to Wear It”, where we provide some personal suggestions about what to wear, when and (most importantly) why.
You got the need for speed? Unfortunately not everyone can grow up to be a race car driver, but when track day rolls around, you sure can feel like one. But where’s the fun if you don’t know who won(even if it’s only for bragging rights)? That’s where your timepiece comes in handy. They need to be big, bold, and easy to read. Whether you are behind the wheel, or its your turn to sit in the pit, we have a watch for you. Oh, and these watches won’t lie to you about your time, like your buddy will. Even when its time to go back to work, these watches will look great on your wrist while driving your sensible sedan.
First to the starting line is the Speedtech Auto STI. Orient Watch has sponsored STI’s BRZ GT300 for a few years now. The engine in this watch is the Orient in house caliber 40R56 movement which is self winding, hand winding, and hacking. Additionally this caliber utilizes a power reserve indicator on the dial (think of it like a fuel gauge, but for your watch). The dial also features a cut out to showcase the engine powering you watch. The 45mm case takes many design cues from the Subaru BRZ GT300 with carbon fiber accents as well as the blue ring around the bezel. Orient incorporates a rotating inner bezel for further functionality. This version of the Speedtech Auto STI is mounted on a urethane rubber strap which wraps around your wrist from the curved lugs. The benefit of using a urethane strap is that it’ll adjust quickly from your wrist to over a NOMAX jumpsuit effortlessly.
Tried and true, this Orient Watch developed this watch in with STI to celebrate the victory of the Nurburgring 24-hour race. Like the BRZ GT300, Orient also sponsors the Subaru WRX tS at the Nurburgring! Inside the 47mm case is the Orient in house caliber 40N5A movement, which is self winding, hand winding and hacking. This is perfect for syncing watches and also giving your watch a jump start. Importantly this watch has also been ISO certified for water resistance (200m), anti-magnetism, and critically for shock resistance, perfect for all the vibrations from the steering wheel. The large lumed hands and indices will stay glowing bright long into the night for those evening races. To top things off, the power serve indicator has been designed to look like your fuel gauge. The Orient X STI M-Force comes with both a stainless steel bracelet and a urethane band.
Now if its your turn to be in the pits and time everyone, the Speedtech Chrono is the clear winner. The Speedtech Chrono has a 40min quartz chronograph which is accurate to 1/100 of a second, which isn’t just precise, its uber precise. On Fridays, when waiting all week for the weekend, you don’t wanna know roughly how fast you made it home, you want to know exactly how fast you were. This watch will tell you. The case is a modern 46mm and with its curved lugs, this watch hugs your wrist like you hug the curves on the track. The Speedtech Chrono styling takes direct design cues from the Subaru BRZ GT300, the carbon fiber accents on the case as an homage to the grill of the BRZ GT300, for an extremely sporty look with classic racing colors of blue and red accents. Topped off with a tachymeter on the inner bezel, you’ll have a backup for your speedometer when its your turn in the driver’s seat.
