What to Wear and How to Wear It: A Watch to Wear at a BBQ

July 3rd, 2014 Posted in What to Wear and How to Wear It | 1 Comment

We feel that there are all different kinds of instances in life that require a trusty timepiece (because why not?). This is just one of them. Introducing “What to Wear and How to Wear It”, where we provide some personal suggestions about what to wear, when and (most importantly) why.

It’s hot and muggy out, which means its Summer time, but more importantly BBQ season. We’re talking burgers and hot dogs or something more fancy like ribs or brisket.  Whether its an “optional” company BBQ or a mandatory family BBQ, we have some ideas for you. So get the grilled fired up, roll up your sleeves and enjoy showing off your timepiece.

Let’s start with the first place you want to spend your weekend, with your coworkers and boss. For a company BBQ, chances are you’ll be going business casual, with a greater emphasis on being casual, for example: nice jeans or chinos with a polo or seersucker shirt. But just in case this BBQ turns into an emergency trip back to the office, or the corporate executives show up, you don’t want your watch to be too casual. That’s why we think the Class on stainless steel is the perfect match for a company outing. The Class is extremely lightweight, and it has a very dressy-casual look emphasized by the lack of the seconds hand (you don’t have anywhere to be) that’ll show you can let your hair down, yet still be in control. Mounted on a stainless steel bracelet, you won’t have to worry about a leather band getting stained from sweat and smelling, the stainless steel will clean up much nicer and give a bit, but not too much, of a sporty look. The Class has a traditional watch size of 38mm, a lovely petite size that’s perfect for a classic watch.  This classic size will also emphasize your finer taste compared to your colleagues wearing 50mm+ divers. Topped off with a sapphire crystal, you don’t have to worry about beating up the Class if the two-touch football game gets a bit rough. And if your boss happens to invite a key business partner, the Class can’t embarrass you like some plastic watch will.

Now to the other side of the coin, spending the day with your closest friends and family. Unless you’re a Rockefeller, this is going to be a pretty casual event, t-shirts, casual button up, jeans or shorts. Pairing perfectly with this is a nice sports watch, the Advancer. The Advancer is a great companion for a BBQ for a few reasons. First the Advancer has a 42.5mm stainless steel case, this gives the watch a nice robust feeling on the wrist. Mounted on a stainless steel bracelet, which is ideal because it’ll resist sweat and will clean up nicely after a hot day; leather on the other hand will stink to high heaven after a day over a hot grill. The use of both brushed and polished links gives the watch a very cool look that will look great out under the sun. This case also features a 100m depth rating which is perfect if you happen to be pushed or coerced into the pool (or diving into the cooler for another drink). An unique feature on the Advancer is the wide date window, allowing you to have a look at days coming up; this is thanks to the ORIENT caliber 48749 movement. What’s also really neat is that all three hands have been lumed, making this watch ideal for the BBQs that last late into the night. Topped off with a white dial which has the perfect casual carefree look to it, the Advancer is a great choice for your next BBQ.
