Watch News: Watch Ambassadors

February 6th, 2012 | No Comments

After another year of Super Bowl commercials it’s clear that every brand wants a famous ambassador. Whether it’s Matthew Broderick for Honda or Clint Eastwood for Chrysler, celebrity endorsements are important and powerful. Of course the watch industry is no different. Celebrities, athletes, and models have all acted as ambassadors for the best known watch brands. Just look at George Clooney for Omega, Leonardo DiCaprio for TAG Heuer, or Roger Federer for Rolex. So who is the newest member of the club? The answer is basketball star, Lebron James for Audemars Piguet.

Ambassadors become synonymous with a brand. For example, one of Omegas most recognized style is the ‘James Bond’ Seamaster. Yet despite popularity, the best kind of celebrity endorsement is targeted to the customer who cares. Plenty of watch collectors couldn’t care less who wears their favorite brand in an advertisement, as long as the craftsmanship delivers. Yet others prefer imitating the style of those they admire. What kind of consumer are you? Despite the message that’s received, this marketing tactic is sure to be around forever.
