The Watch Brand to Watch: Orient

February 26th, 2010 | 5 Comments

Orient Watches are exciting because they are new to the U.S. and because they offer luxury watches at 1/3 of the price of comparable brands without sacrificing quality. That’s a pretty rare find in the watch world.

In this edition, we’ll take a look at some Orient Watches that really make the brand stand out:

CFT00004B “Racing Inspired”

The CFT00004B “Racing Inspired” Automatic is an excellent example of what Orient Watches are all about. This watch offers a unique design and color selection with features fit for a very high-end watch.

Let’s look at some of these luxury features:
  • Approx. 42 hour Power Reserve and Indicator
  • In-house movement
  • Sapphire crystal with anti-reflection coating
  • Sapphire crystal skeleton case back
  • Screwed down crown and screw case back
  • Slide-rule bezel

As for its unique design, the black dial of the CFT00004B is offset by bright, lime green accents and second sweep hand. The Power Reserve Indicator is also modeled after a fuel gauge in a car, which adds to the “Racing Inspired” quality of the watch. The semi-skeleton dial is also a noteworthy feature that offers a glimpse inside the watch in addition to the skeleton case back.

If you don’t find this color combo particularly attractive, other CFT0000 dials come in white, orange or yellow.

YFH04001B “Airplane Concept”

The YFH04001B “Airplane Concept” Automatic is another example of Orient’s watch ingenuity. The YFH04001B is part of the OrientStar Retro-Future Collections, which are an ode to early industrial machines and watchmaking.

The “Airplane Concept” has an interesting appearance specifically designed for people who appreciate retro or vintage-inspired styles with modern functionality.

Here are some of the YFH04001B features:
  • Approx. 40 hour Power Reserve and Indicator
  • In-house movement
  • Sapphire crystal
  • Sapphire crystal skeleton case back
  • Screwed down crown and screw case back

Not to mention the dial is reminiscent of the inside of a 1950′s airplane cockpit, and as with the CFT00004B, has an additional glimpse inside of the watch with a skeleton eye.

The “Airplane Concept” is also available in bright blue or orange.

CFA05001B “World Time”

The CFA05001B “World Time” Executive Automatic is a new edition carbon fiber watch from Orient. With its world clock feature, the CFA05001B was created with travelers in mind.

Let’s look at the other luxury features on this watch:
  • Approx 40 hour Power Reserve and Indicator
  • In-house movement
  • Sapphire crystal
  • Sapphire crystal skeleton case back
  • Screwed down crown
  • Bidirectional bezel

The carbon fiber dial of the CFA05001B appears almost textured or quilted, which offers a subtle touch to the watch’s aesthetic. And though it isn’t very colorful, this watch would still stand out because of its large size and many gadgets.

If you’re tired of the same old silver stainless steel watch bands, you’ll be glad to know that the “World Time” is also available with a black stainless steel band and case.

I really like the design of the cfao5oo1b. The dial looks very legible and reviews say the lume is very good. Also the world time features are pretty great.

I won the Orient CFA05001B World Timer (Look for my video review) and it is a fantastic watch. Little unknown secret about the caliber 46K40 movement in it, is that it comes factory regulated to -15/+10 seconds a day. This is a higher grade watch than most other Orient Automatics sold in the USA.

This watch has excellent fit/finish, a fantastic dial and Orient does world timer watches like no one else. If you can get it for $300 is a steal. Well worth every penny.

To me personally, this is one of their best US offering in my honest opinion.

I meant to say I “own” the watch not “won”.

I like the style of YFH04001B “Airplane Concept.” The watch combines both classic and modern design. Very beautiful bracelet.

Another watch model I like is the CEM65002D ‘Blue Mako.’ Very classic design good for casual and formal occasions.
