The Only Watch 2011 Charity Event

Vacheron Constantin Dove Watch

On September 23, the biggest and most prestigious watch auction in the world will be going down!   The Only Watch 2011 charity auction raises money for Duchenne muscular dystrophy research and has funded €2.5 million in medical science research since September 2009.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a highly debilitating neuromuscular disease that affects up to a quarter million male children in the world at any given time.  There is no cure for DMD, which regularly reports a dismal life expectancy of only about 25 years.  Therefore, it is important that medical science research is funded to develop a treatment for these children.  All of the proceeds collected from this event will go to the Monegasque Association Against Muscular Dystrophy.

40 unique timepieces will be sold by Antiquorum, the world’s premier horological auction house, located in Monaco.  The watches being auctioned off will range between $8,000 and $600,000, so the faint of heart (or wallet) need not apply.  However, if you have a personal mission to support this cause, are a wealthy philanthropist, or a serious watch collector, this is a great opportunity for you.

One watch in particular caught my eye was Vacheron Constantin’s submission. A beautiful display of M.C. Escher-esque red and white dove tessellations on the face of the watch. It is one of a kind and absolutely gorgeous.

You won’t want to miss checking out these extravagant pieces, they are exquisite works of art for a great cause. Curing DMD, one watch at a time :)
