November 28th, 2010 | 1 Comment

The holidays are approaching, and you may think that it’s time to cut back on spending money on yourself in order to buy gifts for others.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t spoil yourself a little bit. Retailers are enticing buyers with some great deals this year, and you should take advantage of them. After all, buying a gift for yourself is much easier than receiving gifts from others— you won’t need to worry about standing in long return lines after the holidays or actually having to wear the sweater your grandmother made you.

You’ve been perusing popular forums about watches, like WatchUSeek, and you’ve been thinking about starting a watch collection for a while. But now, it’s time to stop thinking and start acting.

So what are you waiting for? You already know what to look for as a first-time buyer. Orient makes starting a watch collection easy and affordable.

Keep reading to find out how you can get the 3 staples of any watch collection for under $600.

  • The Dress Watch
  • The Casual Watch
  • The Sporty Watch

The Dress Watch

The Orient Sky CET05001W, $185

The Orient Sky CET05001W gives you everything you need in a dress watch: functionality, elegance, and style.

Here are 2 of its most noteworthy features:

Color
With a classic white dial and a silver stainless steel band, the color scheme is simple, ensuring it will go with all of your office attire. However, the royal blue accents on the dials add a dignified and sophisticated touch to this classic model.

Multi-Eyes
As part of Orient’s multi-eyes collection, the CET05001W has a dial that is full of convenient features. The 6 o’clock position is home to a date indicator. There are also 2 subdials on this model, a day dial and a 24-hour indicator, which is unique to the multi-eyes collection.

The Casual Watch

The Orient CEVAD001B, $145

Every watch collection needs a casual timepiece, something versatile that can be worn with any outfit at any occasion (even the ugly sweater from your grandmother). The Orient CEVAD001B is the perfect example of such a watch.

Here’s why:

Versatility
The unique design of this model makes it a great option for any occasion, from the office to a day at the beach. The rectangular dial is modern and stylish, while a deep blue genuine leather band adds a more classic look. It’s water resistant up to 50 meters, and it has a sturdy stainless steel case and mineral crystal, so it will hold up during everyday wear.

Convenience
The CEVAD001B will make your life easier. The numerals on the dial are large and easy to read, and there is a day and date indicator at the 6 o’clock position on the dial. It also has a comfortable, lightweight feel that’s essential for an everyday watch. With a comfortable leather band and a case diameter of 37mm x 40mm, you’ll barely feel it on your wrist.

The Sporty Watch

The Orient Mako XL CEM75001B, $250

Now that you have your basic dress watch and a more casual watch, it’s time to have a little fun. A sporty model is a great conversation starter and a fun way to express your individual style.

A diver watch is an essential part of any watch collection, and they’re not just for divers. These timepieces offer convenient features for everyone while maintaining a fun and versatile style. The Orient Mako is an extremely popular model, and the Orient Mako XL is its big brother.

Here’s why the Orient Mako XL CEM75001B should be your first diver:

Size
If you have a great diver watch, you’re going to want to show it off. Diver watches are great conversation starters at business meetings or social events, and the size of the Orient Mako XL makes it hard to miss. The 44.5mm case diameter paired with the sleek, streamlined look of the black dial against a black unidirectional bezel, ensures that your Mako XL will make an impressive statement.

Durability
The Mako XL was built to withstand just about anything. It’s water resistant up to 200 meters and has a sturdy stainless steel band and a mineral crystal. So it’s a great investment, especially for a first-time buyer, because it will last as long as you need it to.

The best part about all these models? They’re all extremely affordable without sacrificing quality or craftsmanship. Together, the MSRP on all 3 is just $580, but if you hurry, you can get a 30% off holiday discount.

If you’re a seasoned watch-a-holic who already has an extensive collection, these models make great additions or gifts for your friends who aren’t quite as obsessed with watches as you are (even though they should be).

Even though I’m reading this article almost a year after creation, I find it to still be accurate. After a few months of hesitation in finding the right watch for me, I had found that just one watch wouldn’t fit perfectly for every occasion. It’s funny that I arrived at the same 3 models and then found this article. For me, it will be the Blue Sapphire Sky vs. the white and the White faced Maverick vs the black. I guess great minds think alike!
