Sarpaneva’s Unique Style

Sarpaneva - Kaamos

Instead of the usual funky watches we’ve covered, we’d like to highlight a watchmaker whose unique industrial-like designs are truly in a league of their own.  The hand model on the left exemplifies Sarpaneva’s website statement that “These watches are not for everyone.”

Stepan Sarpaneva has a lengthy history in watchmaking.  He was born into a craftsmen family, graduated from the Finnish school of Watchmaking, and has worked for watchmaking companies such as Piaget and Christophe Claret.

In the photo on the top-left is the Kaamos, named after the Finnish word for the dark and wintery period when the sun doesn’t reach the horizon in Finland.

Sarpaneva - Supernova

To the right is the Supernova.  Sarpaneva’s inspiration for the Supernova was a motorcycle kickstart pinion.  There were only ten of these watches made, which have since been discontinued.

These interesting designs are like none other I’ve seen before. It seems we get a glimpse into Finnish culture with Sarpaneva’s dark, unorthodox designs.

These are incredibly stylish. Have been wearing the same timepiece for six years and am thinking about trading it in for an Orient.
