Orient’s DJ02003W Constellation: A Five Star Watch

May 14th, 2012 Posted in Orient Watch Reviews | 4 Comments

Astrologers suggest that when the stars align, all goes well and works together flawlessly. The phrase may be applied to a person’s good fortune or, better yet, to Orient’s DJ02003W Constellation, a five star rated watch prominent enough to take its own place in the celestial sphere.

Read on to learn more about the DJ02003W.

Movement

The DJ02003W, like all Orient watches, features an automatic movement that is developed and manufactured in-house. As an Orient Star watch, the DJ02003W features the Orient Caliber 40P51 movement with 22 jewels and 21600/hour vibrations.

DJ02003W’s automatic movement means that it self-winds as you wear it, and contains a 40-hour power reserve indicator, so you will know when the watch needs to be wound.

Other Features

In addition to a superior movement, the DJ02003W Constellation features scratch resistant, anti-reflective sapphire crystal, a durable stainless steel casing, and a trendy chain link band (also of stainless steel). The DJ02003W also includes:

  • 100m water resistance
  • Calendar with date
  • GMT feature, allowing two time zones to display at once
  • 39.5mm case diameter and 14.25mm case thickness
  • Exhibition case back
  • Choice of white or black dial color

Perhaps best of all is the Constellation’s classic, clean look with roman numeral accents, dauphine watch hands, and textured dial. Read on to find out what else people are saying about this five star watch.

It seems like the automatic GMT watch market is often forgotten, so it was nice to see Orient make such a nice quality movement at such a great price point.

I love the different textures used on the dial. Absolutely stunning. Hands are sized right. Diameter is perfect for the intended purpose. Deployant clasp matches watch perfectly. Handwinding and hacking movement complemented with perlage design and signed rotor.

I like the design of this watch. The dial is nice and classy. The band isn’t too heavy and it feels good on the wrist.

Great looking watch. It has a very classic look and the intricate guilloche dial equals the craftsmanship of any Swiss watch.

I do have one question. I don’t seem to be able to hand wind this movement. Is it only round via the movement of the rotor?

The guilloche dial is stunning with a very clean, uncluttered and unambiguous layout and aesthetically appropriate hands for the dial. I’m not generally a fan of Roman hour indices as they tend to look cluttered compared to Arabics or batons. This dial uses them only at the 6, 9 and 12 with batons at the remainder which eliminates that objection, making their use acceptable. The 40P51 auto movement is a step upward for Orient, with its hacking and ability to hand-wind, both of which have been cited as drawbacks by many accustomed to the current ETA workhorse movements. All this combined with the stainless case, solid link bracelet and sapphire crystal execution, this Orient is more like an Orient Star. It’s an incredible value considering how much a new Swiss made GMT of any brand generally sells for.
