Orient Mako: What’s your color?

Life is all about choices. You’ve probably heard it before. Though they can be tough sometimes, life would be really boring without them.
White or wheat (or rye)? Bar soap or liquid soap? Casual or formal? Blue or orange Mako?
The Orient Mako offers a rainbow of choices, which makes me think of Skittles. The only difference is that you can’t eat your Mako watch, no matter how tempting and delicious it may look.

In this article, we’ll discuss these Mako questions:
What does mako mean?
The word “mako” refers to Mako sharks, an evergreen native to New Zealand and Mako teeth as worn for decoration by the Maori people.
Word origin is both Japanese and Greek. In Greek, the root of “mako” means “blessed;” in Japanese, “mako” translates to “child of truth.”
What does that have to do with watches?
The Orient Mako, a.k.a. CEM65001B, was named by a faithful customer from New Zealand. He thought the shark-looking design on the rubber watch bands was reminiscent of the Mako shark.
This aquatic, blessed and truthful name caught on, and is now the official name of the CEM65001B.
How is the Orient Mako different?
There are certainly a few excellent reasons why the Mako is Orient’s best-selling men’s automatic watch.

Affordable quality
At $190, the Mako is water resistant up to 200m and larger in diameter and thickness than comparable watches, such as the Orient 2ER00001B or Invicta 8926.
The Orient 2ER00001B is about the same price as the Mako, but is only water resistant up to 100m, is smaller and is not available in as many colors/styles as the Mako.

Like the Mako, the Invicta 8926 is water resistant up to 200m, but is slightly smaller, lighter and less personalized (it’s not available in different colors/styles). It’s also nearly twice the price of the Mako (unless you find a really good deal).

Range of colors and styles
The Orient Mako dial is available in these colors:
- Black
- Blue
- Orange
- “Pepsi” (blue with blue and red bezel)
- “Bumble bee” (bright yellow)
Bumble bee is the only color exclusively available with a stainless steel band. The other colors come with either a stainless steel band or urethane (rubber) band with the Mako shark design.
All-purpose use
The Mako is a great choice for a casual or formal occasion. Since it is a diver, it’s of course, fully equipped for outdoor and water activities as well.
A small splash of color can also add a unique touch to any outfit, whether you like to match or contrast. And in that case, you may not be able to buy just one.
Where can I get a Mako in the U.S.?
You can get an Orient Mako from an authorized dealer, like Amazon or Orient Watch USA. For a complete list of authorized dealers, visit the Orient website.
If you want a specific band style or dial color, I’d recommend shopping directly through Orient Watch USA because every style is more likely to be available than at other sites.

I’m in love with the Blue Mako on the stainless steel band. I tried to win one about a month ago and unfortunately did not get it. Such a useful and classy watch.

My first Mako was the blue color. I was wearing my Seiko Orange Monster exclusively until I got the Blue Mako. I love the Mako so much, I ended up buying all the different colors. The orange Mako is much more classy looking than the Seiko Orange Monster that you can wear on any occasion.

I have the Blue Mako and absolutely love it. Very comfortable to wear, the size is perfect, and the blue dial is mesmerizing! I now have a Black Mako on my wish list.
