ORIENT CFTAB002B Automatic Watch

August 5th, 2009 | 13 Comments

Orient’s CFTAB002B automatic watch offers a bold, sporty design; yet is also suitable for business casual attire. Just from looking at the dial, you’ll notice that the “semi-skeleton”, lets you see into the internal part of the watch and compliments the rest of the watch’s “race car” motif.

The semi-skeleton feature exists so that you can view the actual movement of the watch and the crown. There are a total of 3 semi-skeleton exhibition holes, located at the power reserve indicator (or the 12 o’clock position), the 3 o’clock position and the 9 o’clock position. Both the 1950’s racing numerals, as well as the time and hour indicators are luminescent and can be easily viewed in the dark.

One distinguishable design is the steering wheel at the 9 o’clock position, which covers the balance wheel of the watch.

The case includes screws around the crown, which adds to the mechanical look. If you look at the side of the watch, you can see the prism-shaped caseback and a curved crystal that encompasses the dial.

A race car windshield influences the exhibition caseback of this watch. This allows you to view the complication that is powering it.

The crown is in an interesting hexagonal shape and is screwed down so that water does not enter the case. The piece has a solid stainless steel construction, and the case withstands water depths of up to 100m.

The power reserve indicator is another great feature of the CFTAB002B; it specifies the amount of energy, in hours, that is stored in the springs of this watch. When the watch is still, it will consume the stored power in the spring. Just like a gas gauge, you can expect to see the power reserve indicator go upwards as you are wearing it and decrease if the watch is stationary. At full charge, the Orient CFTAB002B watch will run 40 hours without motion.

The metal band for this series of men’s watches contain the combination of both finished and unfinished metals. The purpose of this mixture is to create contrast as well as an arrangement of texture to the watch. In both sides of the case, the first couple of links are tapered followed by un-tapered links. The clasp for this metal band watch has a double-locking buckle for security for the owner so that the watch does not open unintentionally. Near the double locking buckle, there is another Orient logo on the clasp.

This is the gift box that comes along with this line of Automatic Watches. Notice the aluminum finish with ORIENT logo engraved in it.

Great looking watch. The wheel exhibition hole is huge! I really like how the green accents set off the rest of the watch. VERY good deal with a greater than 50% discount. I like the tank styling as well.

Travis, correct you are and congratulations on your new Orient.

When this watch showed up in early June as a DOD the price was even better….$199 shipped to your door. I still regret not pulling the trigger on it but I had just purchased 2 other watches (One of them an Orient the week before from another DOD).

IF it ever shows up again at $199, an order will be placed on the spot!
