Orient CEX0P003W: A Subtle and Simple Automatic

April 26th, 2010 | 3 Comments

The Orient CEX0P003W offers a subtle, simple look, especially designed for those of us who don’t care for the additional bulk of a hefty diving or racing watch.

But don’t let the simplicity fool you; the CEX0P003W has a lot to offer beneath its quiet exterior.

CEX0P003W

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the CEX0P003W.

CEX0P003W watch features

Yes, the CEX0P003W is a little deceiving. It’s such a simple watch, yet has a lot of features to offer as well.

Check them out:

In-house movement

Orient Watches Japan is known for using in-house movements on all of their automatics. The CEX0P003W is no exception to that rule.

But what’s so good about an in-house movement?

In-house movements are produced by the individual watch company (they’re not outsourced), and are a sign of quality watchmaking. After all, the art of watchmaking begins with the watch movement.

40-hour Power Reserve and Indicator
All Orient automatics also have approximately 40-hour Power Reserve. In the case of the CEX0P003W, it also has a PR Indicator just below the 12.

What does that mean?

The Power Reserve feature allows an automatic watch to continue ticking for up to 40 hours unworn. The PR Indicator allows you to know when the reserve is running low, so you’ll know when to wear your watch to charge it up again.

Stainless steel case

The stainless steel case found on the CEX0P003W protects the watch from shock, bumps, dents or other damage.

Stainless steel is also resistant to corrosive materials.

Tachymeter

The tachymeter scale can be used to calculate speed or distance.

Its usefulness in today’s world is continuously debated, but many people have found creative ways to make good use of their tachymeter (e.g. calculate how fast a car is going, calculate pulse or calculate the distance a car has gone).

Using a tachymeter is easy and, who knows, maybe it will come in handy someday, so why not give it a try?

Here are some additional features on the CEX0P003W:

  • 50m water resistance: resists spills, splashes and shallow swimming
  • Genuine leather band: makes for a comfortable and durable fit
  • Mineral crystal: protects the dial from shock, dirt or other damage

What else is good about the CEX0P003W?

As a part of Orient’s Power Reserve series, the CEX0P003W is an excellent choice for business or casual attire. The versatility complements the watch’s subtle features, which makes the timepiece an ideal, multi-faceted addition to any watch collection.

Customers have also noted this watch’s accuracy. As you may know, automatics commonly lose or gain a few seconds per day. The CEX0P003W has been recorded at approximately +3-4 seconds per day. One CEX0P003W wearer noted that his watch gained 11 seconds over the course of an entire week.

That’s pretty impressive.

If the white dial is too subtle for you, be sure to check out the navy blue or black watches in the CEX0P00 collection.
