ORIENT CET06001D Automatic Watch

October 16th, 2009 Posted in Previous DOD's | 19 Comments

This model, the CET6001D, is a watch enthusiast favorite – and it is easy to see why. Although it has a sleek, design – featuring a sporty band and case and a really sharp red second hand – the watch certainly does not lack in mechanical functionality.

The model’s dial offers useful attributes, such as the 24-hour subdial, a date indicator and a day subdial (located at the 11, 6 and 3 o’clock positions).

The luminescent hands and hour indicators allow this model’s wearer to view the watch at any time of day or night. Since this watch is mechanical, the watch runs by the power in the spring of the watch. That means – no batteries! As the watch is being worn, it naturally stores power until it is stationary – perfect for someone always on the go. This watch is also water-resistant up to 50 meters – so no need to take it off in the shower!

The crown (that’s the time-setting knob) has two levels to it:

  1. Adjust the date by loosening the crown to the first level.
  2. Control the time and subdials by the second level of the crown.

To change the day subdial:

  1. Rotate the crown until the day-hand pivots.
  2. Bring the hour-hand back to the 12 o’clock position.
  3. Turn the hand clockwise, and it’s set.

This model’s band comes in solid, stainless steel with sporty links.

The combination of both matte and finished links creates a very intricate look.

The wearer of this watch need not worry about its coming off by accident – the deployment clasp ensures protection.

Cool bracelet, but it’s not really my
style. It would look great with a dressier outfit.

I don’t really see the point of the 24-hour dial. I can tell whether it is morning or evening without that. It would be more useful to me if the 24-hour dial could be independently set, thus making it a GMT watch.

This is a great watch! I love the 6 o’clock date function, the cool day indicator, and the bracelet. The 4 o’clock crown is always a distinctive touch. However, I am not a fan of the 24 hour subdial on this watch. It seems almost like a throw-in. But for this price…who can complain?

  5. By RobG on Jul 5, 2009

Agree with Todd, 6 o’clock date is a nice touch and the size (medium @ 42mm) works well with anything as an all-rounder.

My favorite part…subdials…see how they’re recessed? Much more expensive watches have printed and/or painted subdials and don’t go through the extra manufacturing/design step of giving them a “texture” by sinking them.

I’m looking for the same effect on an inexpensive flieger, tough to find one.

Question on the dial color: Is it electric blue or a more subdued blue-grey? I see both colors in the photos above. Prefer the blue-grey.

Nice classy watch. By the way the “D” suffix at the end of the part number means BLUE dial.

I like watches with 24 hour subdials. The hands on this model are really nice and sleek. Love the day sub dial and date window complications. For $79 this piece is an absolute give away!

    Orient rules!

I like the dial layout of this watch, and the red second hand looks great.

Nice looking watch! I’ve never purchased an Orient before but from the looks of this one they’re quality timepieces.

I have a silver version of this watch with a different band. It is one of my new favorites, with the blue hands and nice textured dial like others have mentioned above. Great watch!

  11. By Troy White on Aug 31, 2009

It’s a great time peice and if it was being offered @ 79 like it was just last month . I would jump on it .

Oh, good grief, it’s taking every ounce of willpower I have to keep from pulling the trigger on this one. The only thing stopping me is I have a Semi-skeleton and the Yellow Mako incoming.

This would be a great DoD at $79 but at $112 it’s not much of a deal. I guess I should have jumped on some of the earlier deals with winders and watch tool kits because there hasn’t been anything decent since then.

  14. By Sandra Cariker on Oct 16, 2009

Great looking watch, love the blue but not the price.

  15. By ANNETTE on Oct 16, 2009

I WOULD PICK IT OVER A ROLEX. IT IS GORGEOUS. JUST MY STYLE.

  16. By Josh on Oct 16, 2009

I bought this watch when it was the DoD at $79 and I would have to say it is well worth it for $112 – The movement is reliable and accurate (mine has lost on average 1.2 seconds a day with a standard deviation of 3.6 seconds – this is phenomenal accuracy for an automatic watch). The watch is not too big, so I do not feel like a gorilla when I wear it. The band has solid links which is a feature unheard of in watches in this price range. The only thing I would like to see added is a sapphire crystal – but now I really am asking too much for this price range.
