ORIENT CEM65003D Automatic Watch

October 14th, 2009 | 33 Comments

New name that watch contest is up in our other blog located here

This diver series is the most popular collection that Orient has to offer. A
feature that makes this model into a professional diver watch is its
water-resistance of up to 200 meters. This is perfect for you if you enjoy scuba
diving on your vacations to Hawaii. You will notice that this watch combines the
timeless design of the dial with the sporty look of the bezel to create a work
of art.

This collection of diver watch is all mechanical. What this means is that it
runs on the spring of the watch. When the diver watch is worn, it will
automatically store power in the spring. Hence the name, automatic watches.

The dial for the CEM65003D comes with both day and date indicators located at
the 3 o’clock position. The day indicator is adjusted by unscrewing the
push-button, located on the 2 o’clock position, and pushing the button for the
specific day. The date indicator is adjusted by the crown (time-setting piece)
located on the 3 o’clock position.

Another attribute that adds to the value of this watch is its unidirectional
bezel. The purpose of this feature is so that you can adjust the time bezel to
the minute hand to see how many minutes have gone by. The time hands, as well as
the hour indicators, are both luminescent. This allows for the owner to view the
time during the evening.

This watch has a two-level crown which adjusts both the time and the date.
The 1st level corresponds to the time while the 2nd level corresponds to the
date. To adjust either level, you must first loosen the screw-down crown. The
purpose of a screw-down crown is so that water does not enter the case. Not only
does the crown have shoulders for added protection, but it also has the official
orient logo engraved on the crown.

The band for this series comes in black urethane. The
urethane strap is an excellent choice for divers as it will stretch over your
gear where as the metal band would need to be resized.

This model comes with a very simple buckle clasp. This is is another
especially nice feature for divers. It is very easy to use a buckle clasp with
gloves and other gear on.

Classic “Pepsi” Mako. I can only afford to buy watches I can wear to court, and unfortunately this one doesn’t make the cut. Looks great, very artistic and bright, if that’s what your looking for, this watch should be right up your alley.

  3. By Matt on Aug 24, 2009

Price isn’t so bad. Awesome watch though. Do people actually win for commenting?

  4. By mw on Aug 24, 2009

I love the Mako series. I just wish it could have a see-through caseback.

  5. By Jae on Aug 24, 2009

I don’t think anyone ever got a watch by commenting. They just want your email address.

  6. By ALLAN WEISER on Aug 24, 2009

I own 11 Orient watches including the Mako in black. Most Orient movements are comparable to the Swiss made Eta movement for less than one third of the price. The Mako is a classic diver’s watch with an excellent lume. I own other brands an I defy any company to come close to an Orient’s very affordable price

  7. By Stephen Santoro on Aug 24, 2009

I hate to point this out since I have purchased many DOD items before, but you can get this exact watch on amazon(official reseller of orient watches) for $0.16 less with free ship and no tax (tax is almost $11 for CA residents).

Best bang for the buck of any watch I own. First, I was surprised by the overall fit & finish of my Pepsi Mako – well made and very finished product. Second, the strap is a good inch longer than any other I have that came on the watch.

But the thing that is so amazing is the blue of the dial. Wow. My wife says this is the prettiest watch I own.

Good lume, beautiful dial, easy to read, well made, low cost, and 200m water resistance – buy it!

  9. By Bob on Aug 24, 2009

I would like to see this one on a bracelet! This and the blue mako are my faves.

  10. By Jeff on Aug 24, 2009

Nice! These Orient watches are really growing on me – I might have to add an Orient to my collection soon!

  11. By Rick on Aug 24, 2009

Please do not have DOD @ 30% off. I am a watch collector and buy from many sites. you need to have the 50-60% off again before many of us would even consider to purchase.

  12. By george Peck on Aug 24, 2009

I know everybody hammers you guys on price right now, but I think it’s justified. Last time the pepsi mako with rubber strap ran as a deal of the day it was $89. I believe that was right about two months ago. So this is a 26% price increase in less than two months. Add the fact as pointed out by Stephen that you can actually get this for LESS at Amazon, and this really isn’t a good deal.

I love the watches though. My blue Mako on bracelet, which I got for $99 on this very site, competes for wrist time with much more expensive watches.

The CEM6503D was the first Orient watch that I ever purchased, and I’ve bought two other Orient watches since, but the CEM65003D remains my favorite. I replaced the black rubber band with a gray woven nylon band and it looks and feels terrific! Everything about the dial is first rate; the deep blue finish, the white luminous hour makers, and broad sword shaped hands make a handsome watch.

  14. By Eric on Aug 24, 2009

What other watch sites are there with a deal of the day? What kind of watches do they sell?

  15. By Brad McConkie on Aug 24, 2009

Nice piece, but would prefer the yellow dial with dive strap — I ‘ll take it ..
Not crazy about the Pepsi bezel.

  16. By BaiBai on Aug 24, 2009

I’m getting the Pepsi today and ordering a blue/grey NATO Bond strap to put on it.

  17. By Carl on Aug 24, 2009

Nice. The yellow dial is nice too.

  18. By Dave on Aug 24, 2009

I Have the Mako, but the Pepsi version is sweet!

  19. By andy on Sep 3, 2009

Im very much liking the last few dotd! Another must have watch for any collector..

  20. By andy on Sep 3, 2009

If i had the funds, id swap out the orange chapter ring with this ones and paint the second hand orange.. that would be purty.

For the September 3, 2009 DoD, it appears that the comment links are linking to the wrong watch. This is for the CEM65003D not the CEM65001D. That can be found here:

  22. By Chris on Sep 3, 2009

Oops, mistake on the link…it’s the CEM65001B.

    awsum watch……… its really beautifullllllll………..

  24. By Robert on Oct 14, 2009

I purchased this watch about 2 weeks ago. The timepiece is very accurate, in addition to being very sporty and sharp looking. I like the color scheme of blue and red, along with the calendar feature. This is a very good buy.

  25. By Cory on Oct 14, 2009

I really like the Pepsi version. It’s got a nice patriotic look.

  26. By Jo on Oct 14, 2009

Very pretty, would make your special guy a great gift, that he would
    enjoy for many years.

  27. By Bill on Oct 14, 2009

Awesome watch! I just received the Blue Mako last week and couldn’t be happier. Very accurate right out of the box!

  28. By Katia Batista on Oct 14, 2009

I was very pleased and impress with your ad.

I will like to give my son a precious gift such as one of the watches you are advertising. Jorge, my son, graduated from High School, back in June, 2009; I was not able to give him a graduation present because I was, and continue, to be unemployed.

    Thank you kindly.

  29. By Orient on Oct 14, 2009

I own this watch, bought it a few months ago when they had the 50% off, I wear this watch more than any other watch. It is very comfortable and very easy on the eyes.

  30. By Michael on Oct 14, 2009

Great looking watch….would love to get an Orient soon.

  31. By David Gallardo on Oct 14, 2009

An automatic watch with day and date… gotta love it!

  32. By Brad Smith on Oct 21, 2009

This is my first Orient. I’ve owned it for a few months now. It looks great and keeps very good time. I’m very pleased.

  33. By brian on Oct 21, 2009

Great looking watch at a great price!

  34. By brian on Oct 21, 2009

Hey Mr. Gallardo, I have a Tissot Le Locle chronograph which is automatic, has day and date, and a chronograph. It is a very nice watch but it cost several times what this one is going for. It does however have a Valjoux 7750 movement and was a deal at the price I paid for it ($550)
