ORIENT CEM65002D Automatic Watch

June 5th, 2009 | 18 Comments

This CEM65002D diver series is the most popular collection that Orient has to offer. A feature that makes this model into a professional diver watch is its
water-resistance of up to 200 meters. This is perfect for you if you enjoy scuba
diving on your vacations to Hawaii. You will notice that this watch combines the
timeless design of the dial with the sporty look of the bezel to create a work
of art.

This collection of diver watch is all mechanical. What this means is that it
runs on the spring of the watch. When the diver watch is worn, it will
automatically store power in the spring. Hence the name, automatic watches.

The dial for this watch comes with both day and date indicators located at
the 3 o’clock position. The day indicator is adjusted by unscrewing the
push-button, located on the 2 o’clock position, and pushing the button for the
specific day. The date indicator is adjusted by the crown (time-setting piece)
located on the 3 o’clock position.

Another attribute that adds to the value of this watch is its unidirectional
bezel. The purpose of this feature is so that you can adjust the time bezel to
the minute hand to see how many minutes have gone by. This is an essential
feature for a diver. It is also a useful tool for cooking. The time hands, as well as
the hour indicators, are both luminescent. This allows for the owner to view the
time during the evening.

This watch has a two-level crown which adjusts both the time and the date.
The 1st level corresponds to the time while the 2nd level corresponds to the
date. To adjust either level, you must first loosen the screw-down crown. The
purpose of a screw-down crown is so that water does not enter the case. Not only
does the crown have shoulders for added protection, but it also has the official
orient logo engraved on the crown.

Woohoo! Finally! Waiting for the blue Mako to become a DoD for a long time. Can’t wait until it arrives.

  5. By mike on Jul 26, 2009

I want one of these at some point!!

  6. By Eric In Oregon on Jul 26, 2009

It’s a bargain at $190.00. For under $100.00 it is an absolute steal! If you are impressed by the pictures and description then just wait until you put one on your wrist. I know you have all read the reviews of this watch on various websites. It doesn’t recieve rave reviews for no reason. It is a benchmark of quality in the industry and it’s refinement can not be approached at this price. Order an extra to give as a gift. The recipient will think you spent a fortune on them! I would order a backup for my own if I thought it would ever wear out.

New to the Orient brand but am already won over. Being a proud owner of an Orange Mako, I’d say that the blue one is just as superb.

I own a black Mako (wearing it right now), and it’s truly an awesome watch!

    Classic face. Diver styling.

I hear the blue on the face is truly stunning though. Almost electric blue in bright light and a more subtle blue in darker light.

The bracelet is a solid piece of work, as well. Great deal.

Just got this watch about a week ago and I couldn’t be happier with it! Really looks like a watch that costs 2-3 times this price. You really can’t go wrong with this watch, it is a classic design that can be worn with many different things. I love mine and you will love yours too.

I purchased this watch last week from Orient and it has met all my expectations of a wonderful time-piece. Given the price, stylish design, and quality, I must say that this watch truly is a bargain. If are considering buying your next watch or need a new wardrobe accessory, buy the Blue Mako. You won’t regret it.

Seriously considering buying this watch. Anyone tried this watch with a brown or black leather band? If so, how’s it look? Got pictures?

  13. By Todd on Jul 26, 2009

Like everyone else said, great watch at the normal price, so the sale deal should be a no brainer. Excellent accuracy and quality. As is so common with Orient watches, I love the different day/date complications (on this watch with the push button at 2 o’clock).

Birthday coming up…sending this link out to friends! Classic, not too showy, reliable.

Gonna have to buy this one, no questions.

Nothing else new to add, other than this watch is a great introduction to the wonderful world of mechanical watches (At least it was for me). The Mako uses movement caliber 469 which is the “workhorse” of Orient and its basic design goes all the way back to the Seiko 7005 caliber family (Without the day wheel complication) from the early to mid 1970s.

So as you can see, the Mako uses a 100% rock solid, reliable, accurate and proven movement with nearly 4 decades of refinement behind it.

I am very happy with mine and since I got my Blue dial version in late April, the watch has displayed remarkable accuracy and consistency in quality that will be expected in watches costing hundreds if not thousands more.

Whether the Mako is your first or tenth Orient purchase, you will not be disappointed in the least.
