ORIENT CEM65001B Automatic Watch

October 21st, 2009 | 36 Comments

This diver series is the most popular collection that Orient has to offer. A
feature that makes this model into a professional diver watch is its
water-resistance of up to 200 meters. This is perfect for you if you enjoy scuba
diving on your vacations to Hawaii. You will notice that this watch combines the
timeless design of the dial with the sporty look of the bezel to create a work
of art.

This collection of diver watch is all mechanical. What this means is that it
runs on the spring of the watch. When the diver watch is worn, it will
automatically store power in the spring. Hence the name, automatic watches.

The dial for this watch comes with both day and date indicators located at
the 3 o’clock position. The day indicator is adjusted by unscrewing the
push-button, located on the 2 o’clock position, and pushing the button for the
specific day. The date indicator is adjusted by the crown (time-setting piece)
located on the 3 o’clock position.

Another attribute that adds to the value of this watch is its unidirectional
bezel. The purpose of this feature is so that you can adjust the time bezel to
the minute hand to see how many minutes have gone by. The time hands, as well as
the hour indicators, are both luminescent. This allows for the owner to view the
time during the evening.

This watch has a two-level crown which adjusts both the time and the date.
The 1st level corresponds to the time while the 2nd level corresponds to the
date. To adjust either level, you must first loosen the screw-down crown. The
purpose of a screw-down crown is so that water does not enter the case. Not only
does the crown have shoulders for added protection, but it also has the official
orient logo engraved on the crown.

if only i had a higher paying job, i’d have another watch in my collection. can’t ever go wrong with a classic. i love the day indicator crown function. adds a distinctive touch to the watch.

a stunning time piece…a classic diver. plus a terrific price.

  4. By George Peck on Jul 2, 2009

So far we’ve had almost every Mako, except the one I want to buy. CEM65002D tonight???

  5. By RobG on Jul 2, 2009

This watch, like other Orient models, packs a lot of bang-for-your-buck. The 21J Japanese movement is time tested to be both accurate and reliable. A 41.5mm case means it can be worn both casually and with a suit. It’s a versatile watch produced by a rock-solid manufacturer, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one.

A very nice classy time piece. Great, ORIENT!

If you have been lusting after a Black dial Mako with Oyster SS bracelet, this is your golden opportunity! I can’t say enough good things about this wonderful timepiece!

  8. By james on Jul 2, 2009

The CEM65002d was on the DOD a while back. It sold out in a few hours as I recall.

  9. By OrientWatchUSA.com on Jul 2, 2009

Suggest some model numbers. What would you like to see on the DOD?

  10. By alan on Jul 2, 2009

How about CFM0004w, CEZAD001b, Yfh02001b, to pick a few that have not been DOD’s

  11. By Evan S. on Jul 2, 2009

Great watch. A true classic and one of Orient’s most popular models. If I was new to the brand, this would be a definite starting point.

  12. By Ray on Jul 2, 2009

Not that I need anymore watches, but a CEM65002D would probably force me to bite.

  13. By Frank In Miami on Jul 2, 2009

OrientWatchUSA.com, the following are the model numbers I would like to see featured in upcoming DODs:

I think the above is a good list to get the jet engines all warmed up and ready to go.

I can’t wait till this watch arrives! I bought it and I think it’ll be fabulous! Orient is a great watch company.

  15. By Syd on Jul 3, 2009

Love, love, love the Mako! The black one is my first and so far the only Orient I own. I have other watches in my collection, Omega, Tissot, Seiko, Casio, but the Orient is the one I wear everyday. It’s just a nice looking watch that works and wears well with anything and any occasion. Work, play, or going out on the town, I’ve sported this sporty Orient. I wear it with pride knowing that I’m not going to be caught wearing the same “mall” watch the guy next to me is wearing. Orient is a unique company with great products at unbelievable prices. Orientalwatchusa.com is also a pleasure to work with. Great staff and superb customer service! Mark, Joey…you guys rock!! I look forward to owning another Orient very soon. That Marcus Gronholm one is speaking to me!

I have an Orient automatic watch that my Mom gave me as a gift when I finished high school, this took place back in November of 1973 (almost 36 years), and still runs perfect, it was never repaired, only the band has been replaced, congratulations Orient on a great made piece of machinery.

  17. By Matthew Faircloth on Jul 11, 2009

After looking at this watch for a week, I pulled the trigger yesterday after reading many positive reviews. Can’t wait to get it!

  18. By Brad Smith on Sep 3, 2009

This is the first Orient Watch in my collection. I love it! The shape of the hands is easily readable and quite striking. The luminosity is good. The bezel is nice and solid (it was stiff to start with, but relaxed to an easy-to-turn but not loose state after a few turns).

I usually rotate watches that I own to get more or less equal wrist time, but since I got the Black Mako, the others have been neglected a bit.

  19. By Earle on Sep 3, 2009

Why are some of the comments for the last couple of days been posted in the past, like July 2009? Love Orient watches but need to bring back the 50% off price tag. The deal of the day should be more than 30%.

  20. By BaiBai on Sep 3, 2009

I agree with Earle. However, I’m trying to go a full seven days without buying another Orient and at 50% off or better that would have been impossible. It’s now taking every ounce of willpower I have to keep from buying two Makos at a time. This black one is next.

  21. By Rod Moore on Sep 3, 2009

Great watch at an even greater price!

I plan to get a Blue Mako when the opportunity makes itself available.

  22. By Ben on Sep 3, 2009

    That is blackiful.

  23. By rayray on Oct 21, 2009

It doesn’t get any more classic than this for a diver. Great looking watch!

  24. By M. Dettinger on Oct 21, 2009

what is the length of the band? Will it fit a 8 1/2 inch wrist?

  25. By Sartorial Architect on Oct 21, 2009

The masculinity present in the design of this watch would provide a nice contrast to my wardrobe considering I’m a female and absolutely LOVE wearing men’s watches.

  26. By Jon on Oct 21, 2009

I own the Blue version of this watch, and I have to say, it compares very favourably to other dive watches. The blue dial is absolutely stunning, and the movement is quite accurate. This watch looks and feels twice its retail price.

This watch comes highly recommended to those looking for a stylistic functional diver.

I have been an Orient Fan for years! I am so glad (and so happy for Orient!!) that the greater American public is being made aware of how awesome these timepeices are! My old dive watch was “Kinetic” before Kinetic was copyrighted by that other watch company and cooler than anyone knew! Nice and heafty quality. My dad had one in Vietnam and said, “It saved his life”. He was a “Seawolf” with the HA(L)-3. I would love if you made a “Seawolf” line. Any way, It would be grand to win a new one!
    Cheers, and greater success!
I will be sure to post you on my FB to spread the word!

Nice watch. Great value for money. Can’t decide
    black VS blue Mako!

I have 4 orient watches including this one. All beautiful watches and great values. Now i have my eye set on their newest model CEM7500 diver series.

    Orient is the best watch!!!

  31. By Vladimir on Jan 15, 2010

    Dear friend!
Let me tell you something about my old Orient.
Since I got it, I did not open the case a long time. The accuracy was not very sharp but I was afraid to open it.
One time I decided to adjust the accuracy.
I found very easy way to do adjusment better, (I mean, to change the length of the hairspring in very short steps, in microns, without any optical devices and special tools). After that I adjusted the accuracy . My watch runs now with accuracy about 10sec a week. It is very good. It’s nice! You know, some watches have accuracy about +,- 30sec a day (according to manuals) and nobody complains because it’s normal. But it is not for me. I adjusted my Orient.
10sec a week – can you believe it?
I did it because I like the watch with high accuracy. Some watches don’t need this high quality adjustment because they run differently in day time and night time, in summer and in winter. They run slower or faster in different conditions. Even you adjust this watch to +,- 0 sec a day, the accuracy will be changed in time.
But the Orient is the special watch. Since I adjusted the accuracy, my watch runs same 10sec a week and it does not depend of conditions. In this case the Orient watch is the best watch.
The Orient watches have very nice shape, very high accuracy, very good design of dial and hands. You can see the time with any angle. I mean, you don’t have to move the watch in sertain position to see the dial better. You can see the dial from different places.
I have seen a lot of watches. Sometimes very expensive watches have very bad dial. You have to look a long time at the watch, to undersand, what time is it.
The Orient is the best watch. Really very nice watch for every day.
So, thanks to ORIENT Company for the Orient Watches they make!

  33. By Michael on Apr 13, 2011

maybe I should get one of those as long as I’m in the US

  34. By Martin on Jul 14, 2011

Where can I buy this watch in Los Angeles?

  35. By A C on Mar 10, 2012

    I love the Mako 1

  36. By David on May 16, 2012

Do not buy from Amazon. I just did. They sent me an FEM, not CEM, and it does not have a serial number. It’s probably not assembled in Japan, and we want the Japanese workmanship. Make sure it’s made in Japan before buying it.

    Lovely watch.
