That is quite an elegant pocket watch. :)

  3. By George Peck on Jul 14, 2009

    That is a beautiful timepiece!

  4. By Douglas on Jul 14, 2009

Wow, didn’t know Orient sells pocket watches!

  5. By Frank In Miami on Jul 14, 2009

Yes, Orient does make gorgeous looking pocket watches and this model is no exception. Pocket watches are pretty foreign to our generation given the immense popularity of wrist watches. Pocket watches were the thing to have “Once upon a time”.

Another cool aspect of the caliber 48C40 used on this piece (That seemed to have gone under the radar), is that the movement can be both, hand wound and hacked.

If you want to be different from the crowd, I can’t think of a better way to do so than this timeless Orient pocket watch.

  6. By Jeff on Jul 14, 2009

Great DOD! Beautiful dial, and I love the power reserve. Very cool!

  7. By Todd on Jul 14, 2009

Wow…this is not what I was expecting to see. This is one of the most modern pocket watches I’ve ever seen. Could it be the start of a new fad?

  8. By William Gates on Jul 14, 2009

I’ll take 100 and give them to my management team.

  9. By Frank In Miami on Jul 14, 2009

I think so too, Todd. Imagine the looks from people around when you pull out from your pocket this beautiful piece of art to tell time!

There is something very classy and timeless about pocket watches.

  10. By Vladimir on Jul 14, 2009

Wow… This ORIENT offer is truly unexpectantly shocking. A true Retro-Future timepiece. Bravo

  11. By George on Jul 14, 2009

    That’s pretty cool. Very tempting.

  12. By Frank In Miami on Jul 15, 2009

So while perusing the official Orient Japan site, it turns out, that this pocket watch is in reality a top of the line Royal Orient offering (For those of you that are not familiar with Orient’s higher end brands, Royal Orient is their most expensive line of watches (Like Grand Seiko is to Seiko) with watches topping at nearly US$5,000) have a look:

The Royal Orient branded version of this pocket watch (Japan Market Only) has a retail price tag of 115,500 Japan Yen, which at today’s exchange rates, will equal around US$1,235!!!!!!!

So here we have a rebranded “Royal Orient” sold as an “Orient Automatic” for only US$239????? This has to be the Orient bargain of the year!

  13. By MIKE AT YAMAHA on Jul 15, 2009

Im considering a change in my watch hobby to Pocket watches this looks like a winner

  14. By james on Jul 15, 2009

I wouldn’t immediately jump to the conclusion that the Royal Orient is the same as this DOD. While they are both round and the power reserve is located at the 9 o’clock position that hardly makes them the same watch. The texture of the dial, hands, minute markers, belt clip, and crown are all different. Not to mention the Royal orient uses different movement.

  15. By Frank In Miami on Jul 15, 2009

James, the Royal Orient uses movement Caliber 48A40 and the Orient version here uses caliber 48C40. I will research what are the key differences between the 2, but from here, the movements look to be exactly the same.

  16. By Frank In Miami on Jul 15, 2009

Also, the Royal Orient pocket watch version is slated exclusively for the Japanese market, while the Orient pocket watch version is slated for the international market. Noticed how you can’t find this pocket watch under the “Orient Automatic” brand for the JDM market.

  17. By Brad Smith on Jul 21, 2009

    Classic looking pocket watch.

  18. By Ian P on Jul 29, 2009

I think you’ll find the Orient Star Royal JDM version has a silver case as against the stainless steel case on this beauty. Happy to help even if being a UK resident rules me out from the prize draw :-(

  19. By Still Tickin on Aug 2, 2009

Great looking piece! Like the power reserve feature. Design of the dial and the blue hands is another plus. Easy to read. Great to see the nostalgic look with the modern anemities in this fine Orient timepiece.

  20. By Paul Hubbard on Aug 16, 2009

I just posted our long review – http://www.watchreport.com/2009/08/review-of-the-orient-cdd00001w0-pocketwatch.html

    It’s a beauty!

  21. By Mark on Aug 16, 2009

I was not a pocket watch user, yet seeing this beauty…wow. I have changed my mind.

  22. By Matuka on Aug 19, 2009

There’s nothing like the sound of a strong, clean mechanical pocket watch movement. Even at 21600 BPH ;-)

  23. By Todd on Sep 12, 2009

Put this up again in a few months so i can buy it to celebrate my raise…this watch is a tempting buy, it looks great!!

  24. By Matt on Sep 12, 2009

I’ve been kicking myself ever since I missed out on a vintage Orient pocketwatch on eBay, but this one is gorgeous!

  25. By Stephen Santoro on Sep 12, 2009

I think the pocket watch is a great idea for the DOD. Most people like myself do not, and have never, owned a pocket watch. This may open the door to a new way for some to keep time. Although, they might have to get used to the feeling of no watch on the wrist. I’m so used to wearing a wrist watch, I feel funny if I don’t have one on during the day.

  26. By Jeff on Sep 12, 2009

I have many pocket watches some old some new. This pocket watch is by far the most amazing time piece I have ever seen. Definately a place for this pocket watch in my collection.

  27. By Ginger Lewis on Sep 12, 2009

I think that the pocket watch has almost become a thing of the past. I can remember my Grandfather having one and I always would ask him what time it was so I could look at it. I think your doing a great thing by bringing it back into the lime light. I also want to say that with this you can give the younger generation the chance to see what us old folks are talking about. Thank You.

  28. By Pamela Hachkowski on Sep 12, 2009

great looking pocket watch – where can they be found in NY state.

  29. By Patti on Sep 12, 2009

This is a beautiful pocket watch. I would love to give it to my father-in-law. He would love something this nice that he can carry with him that looks great and would be a excellent conversation piece.

It is a huge departure from the ORIENT wrist watch business. Otherwise, very classy.

  34. By Lori H. on Sep 12, 2009

This a beautiful watch. I started collecting them after my grandfather passes 30 years ago when I received his.

  35. By Debbie on Sep 12, 2009

Lordy, my son wants this one. If you think about it for a moment, it will stand out amongst teenagers.

It certainly is kakkoii, “cool” (literally, “good style”).

    Jiminy, now I want one.

I find this watch very unique and stunning to the eye. A wonderful piece to add to my collection. It is not something that appeals to everyone, but it does to me. I would love to have one.

  47. By Phil on Sep 13, 2009

    The designs are so exquisite!!

  48. By sherri reff on Sep 13, 2009

the watches on the site are real beauties!

  49. By Cheri Cowart on Sep 13, 2009

My grandfather had a pocket watch that he always had with him. I used to love to play with it, and it pleased him to watch me play with his “toy.” Looking at the Orient pocket watch made me remember something that I hadn’t thought about in years. Thanks!

  50. By lily ann on Sep 13, 2009

I did not know pocket watches where maid any more. That is one nice pocket watch.

  51. By Dave on Sep 13, 2009

  52. By janine on Sep 13, 2009

  53. By James on Sep 13, 2009

Looks very nice, like one my grandfather used.

  54. By Tim on Sep 14, 2009

Just when I’ve had enough of watches along comes this beauty.
I’ve always had a weakness for pocket watches since my grandfathers pocket watches ‘disappeared’ when we looked for them many, many years ago. This one has that classic look: simple, elegant and beautifully finished. The power reserve is a great finishing touch.
    Lovely, very lovely.

  55. By FernandoC on Sep 14, 2009

I think I will get one to my fatherĀ“s 70th birthday!

  56. By jerry fortin on Sep 18, 2009

this is such an elegant timepiece. my daddy, who is now 80 years old, used to work as a clerk in a jewelry store and he longed and wished for the day he could afford a watch similar to this one….but of course bills and family responsibilities came first and Dad never did get his watch. He would enjoy (as would anyone else)the larger face and easier to read numbers. this would make a great daily watch as well as a watch for special oocasions

  57. By CK on Sep 20, 2009

Besides money and car. What a man need? An elegant pocket watch.

  58. By Rick Justice on Oct 5, 2009

The Orient pocket watch in stainless steel, unlike it’s oriental counterpart which is made of silver, will not only make it easier on my pocket book but more likely to survive my thick handed ineptness.
Plus, what a looker it is.

  59. By Fred on Dec 17, 2009

I guess that the movement of the Royal Orient version of this watch (Cal. 48A40) is better. Its decoration is also prettier:

but it’s much more expensive (though not overpriced at all).

Anyway, this watch is a great deal. I can’t believe it’s possible to have an in-house movement, hack feature, sapphire glass on both side, power reserve indicator, and waterproofness for less than 300 dollars.

  60. By Kari on Feb 22, 2010

I love these watches. I was always fascinated by pocket watches as a child. But I want to get one for my husband.

  61. By Tom Whiteway on Apr 7, 2010

My Swiss Army wrist watch is in a drawer somewhere, and I only carry my Orient pocket watch. Although it gains 15 seconds a day, I will have it adjusted very soon, and that doesn’t detract from its solid beauty.

  62. By George on May 19, 2010

perfect pocket watch love it buy one more for collection thanks to orient watch

  63. By ROUX on May 28, 2010

    It is the third Orient watch I bought;
The two fist were quartz with jewels.
Thanks to a watch seller who drive my attention upon these good-excellent- watches. My uncle was a watch maker, and at the age of 5 years,I unscrewed old watches to recuperated pieces for him.I can see now how Orient are well built watches; the last I bought is a mechanical automatic CFT: good balance betwwen aestitic and technical design. I am very happy. thanks.

  64. By CHAN CHEE KEONG on Dec 10, 2010

ORIENT pocket watch is a all new pocket watch needs no worry about the spare parts problems compare with the old or used pocket watch.

  65. By CHAN CHEE KEONG on Dec 12, 2010

I will be very happy if the free Orient watch is the Orient CDD00001W pocket watch and I am one of the lucky winner.
