If you’re looking for a mechanical dive watch, be sure to check out Orient’s CEM75001B and CFD0C001M.

The only problem is which watch will be the one for you?

Today’s article will look at what’s good and not so good about these 2 very different dive watches.

CEM75001B

The CEM75001B, sometimes referred to as Mako’s big brother, is a simple and subtle automatic mechanical dive watch from Orient. It has a large face with luminous hour markers and hands.

CEM75001B

Though not ISO certified, this watch can handle swimming, snorkeling, other water sports and recreational diving.

What else is good about this watch?

  • In-house movement
  • 40-hour Power Reserve
  • Stainless steel case and band
  • Screwed-down crown
  • 200m water resistance
  • Unidirectional bezel
  • $250 price tag

Plus, the CEM7500 watches are also available with an orange or navy blue dial. But if you’re looking for a diver with similar features to the CEM7500 watches but with a classier, Submariner-inspired look, be sure to check out the the Orient 2ER00001B.

But what’s not so good about this watch?

  • Mineral crystal: not the best for scratch-resistance
  • No Power Reserve indicator: no way to tell when your watch needs a charge
  • Lume could be improved for greater visibility in darkness

That said, let’s have a look at another Orient diver that’s a bit more equipped.

CFD0C001M

The CFD0C001M is one of Orient Watch USA’s most high-tech automatic mechanical watches. The watch has greater water resistance and is ISO certified, so it’s better than the CEM75001B when it comes to actual diving.

It’s also a very thick, large watch with wide hands and excellent lume, which is more preferable for divers or people who prefer a weightier watch.

What else is good about this watch?

  • In-house movement
  • 40-hour Power Reserve and indicator
  • Stainless steel case and band
  • Screwed-down crown
  • 300m water resistance
  • Unidirectional bezel
  • Sapphire crystal

The CFD0C00 collection is also available with a black dial and bezel.

But what’s not so good about this watch?

  • $1800 price tag
  • Size: may be too bulky for some

Which watch is for you?

Now that you know a bit more about these 2 mechanical automatic divers, it’s time to consider which one is the better choice for you.

The CEM75001B offers a more everyday watch than the CFD0C001M. It’s smaller, thinner and less gadget-y. So, if a more subtle watch with excellent water resistance is what you prefer, go for the CEM75001B.

However, if you plan on doing serious diving, the CFD0C001M is the better choice for you. Though it’s pricier, the CFD0C001M is a good deal for all of the luxury features that you get.

That said, because it’s ISO certified, the CFD0C001M is also a safer choice if you do plan to dive. Or even if you don’t plan on diving, you may prefer the CFD0C001M if you prefer a bigger, more tech-y watch. This watch will definitely get noticed with its bright orange face.

So, what have other customers said about these watches?

Phenomenal- “…my [CEM75001B] keeps time to within -4 seconds per day. This is phenomenal and is within the realm of COSC standards…”

Unique aesthetic-
“Unlike other inexpensive mechanical watches in its price range… the [CEM75001B] does not strive to slavishly imitate the Rolex Submariner, but instead has its own aesthetic going on.”

A great gift- Not only was the [CFD0C001M] a great gift for my dad this Christmas… but I learned that Orient Watches doesn’t outsource which is pretty awesome…”

The CFD0C001M is a fantastic watch. I have had a chance to see one live and it feels really well constructed.

If I had to choose, I would choose the CFD0C001M due to the smaller size and more understated aesthetic, also the ISO rating makes a big difference.

I would go for the CEM75001B for office use. 200m is plenty of water resistance for someone who doesn’t dive. It’s just a pity that the crystal isn’t sapphire. I wonder if it can be retrofitted?

Both are wonderful watches. I prefer higher technology. So, I would take the CFD0C001M, but in black. And the power reserve indicator is nice and useful.
