Here's a new model from Orient Star.  This is called the "Orient Star Standard".   Standard it is with centre seconds, date and crown at 3 - certainly a successful "Standard" design.  I wondering though, whether they are using the same case as the "Orient Classic EL" model?  - See the last two photos of the EL model.

It appears Orient has dropped the word "Classic" and now calls the watches in this category "Orient Star".  Actually, it is quite the "Classic".  Price is listed at 50,400 JPY but I think they will sell around the 34,000 JPY mark.

It's great to see the "Red Wine" available too.  Orient appear to have dropped the end link to show the line of the case which looks good in the photo.  Posted Image

Quick Specs:

  • Caliber: 40750
  • Accuracy: +25 to -15 seconds daily
  • Power Reserve: 40 hours
  • Automatic with handwind and hacking
  • 22 jewels
  • Crystal: Sapphire with Non-reflective coating
  • Diameter: 39mm
  • Lug to Lug: 46.5mm
  • Thickness: 11.3mm
  • Lug Width: 20mm
  • Water Resistance: 50m
  • Date Window at 3
  • Screw down see thru caseback
  • Solid End Links

The photos below show the EL model which appears to have the same case as the new model above....

Me too. Love that color. Sweet watch, no doubt.

I happened to see these on the Orient web site the other day.  They look nice.  I'm always surprised how versatile the design of the traditional Japanese dress watch can be.  Notice the slight oblong shape around the equator of the case?

Standard is a good name.  I guess that's what you would call a line that is more classically designed than your "Classic" line.  Orient can be such fun.

I'm new to Orient Watches but am very interested in the "Star" series of watches.  Can you guys post some links to the latest Orient Star watches?  Do these typically end in an "EL" model number?  I've been looking at the orient usa and other sites and do not even see mention of any Star series watches.  I'm looking for the Orients that have an auto movement that is comparable to a Seiko SARB/6R15.  Also which is the best USA based retailer to look at the Orient Stars?

Just received the "red wine" OS today. Ordered from Higuchi the price was 38800YEN, or $505.00 US. It is beautiful. My first order from Higuchi, and it was a pleasure. Prompt communication via email, and the watch arrived in Virginia, USA within 5 days of payment.

The Orient Star line is mostly JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) only, with the exception of the Air Diver (or "Revolver", as it's now known) and the Retro Future line of concept watches. Thus you need to buy grey market or from a Japanese dealer. As I can attest, Higuchi is excellent.
Here's a link to their site:

Orient USA is not Orient themselves, they are an AD (authorized dealer). There are a few in the US, Long Island Watch being another. You will find they have similar models and pricing.

Orient also makes watches in Brazil, where there are models only available there. I don't know of any international dealers in Brazilian Orients, you need to use a third party buyer.

Sorry, my camera is currently broken, and there has been a delay while I take my sweet time fixing it (or replacing, should it sadly come to that). In the meantime, I will say the watch is beautiful. The red shines nicely in sunlight. The watch is very comfortable, light and relatively thin. I love it.

Nice watch but a little bland for my tastes. I always thought that the Orient Star should be a special watch and ahead of the pack in looks. These watch are just run of the mill but they do have a very clean look to them.

I am new here and I know that I am commenting on old threads but I have to write several posts before I can start my own thread. I hope that some of you read this and I look forward to meeting you on this message board in the future.
