CVZ00002J: A Watch as Tough as You
April 19th, 2010 Posted in Orient News | 6 Comments | Comment and Win a Free Orient Watch Comment and Win a Free Orient WatchThe Orient CVZ00002J is the perfect watch for anyone with an active lifestyle because it is just as strong and active as the owner who dons it, featuring an accurate quartz movement, quality materials and useful features. One reviewer called it “subtly beautiful.”
Read on the learn about the aspects of the CVZ00002J that make it the perfect sporty quartz watch:

Accurate Quartz Movement
Quartz clocks were introduced in 1927, but until the integrated circuit was invented, their movements weren’t small enough for wristwatches.
Swiss watchmakers made the first quartz watch movements in the late ’60s. However, the watchmakers didn’t pursue the prototypes because switching to quartz would require a factory revamp. However, in 1969, Japanese watchmaker Seiko decided to offer quartz watches to consumers.
Seiko’s first quartz watch was an analog model named the Astron 35SQ. The Astron didn’t actually have an integrated circuit, but a hybrid circuit. Soon after the Astron’s launch, integrated circuits became standard.
There are 2 reasons why quartz is a great material to use as an oscillator.
Quartz:
- Loses little energy as it vibrates, and therefore the vibrations are very steady
- Vibrates in response to electric charge and generates voltage when it vibrates
The CVZ00002J is powered by Orient’s Caliber JXA00 movement, a quartz movement. A quartz movement uses a super-thin piece of synthetic quartz to measure time. The piece of quartz responds to electric charge (which usually comes from a battery) by vibrating rapidly, or oscillating. The oscillations occur at the rate of about 32,768 per second. The “trimmer” regulates the oscillations to keep time.
Water Resistant Stainless Steel
The CVZ00002J is ready for water and more. Water resistant to 100m, you can easily go swimming or snorkeling in your watch without harming it. The CVZ00002J’s screwed-down crown is superior to the typical snap down crown because it really helps keep water out.
In addition to being water-resistant, the stainless steel case, band and bezel, are stain-, scratch- and corrosion-resistant. So when the avid swimmer uses it to time intervals, it won’t change color over time.

In addition to the durable, water-resistant nature of the watch case and band, the watch face also withstands daily wear with its mineral crystal. Mineral watch crystals protect the face and dial from scratches and breaks in normal wear.
Rotating Bezel, Stopwatch, and Tachymeter
Gadgets make active lifestyles more enjoyable and safe.
The CVZ0002J has 4 useful features to help you keep track of your sporty activities:
- Rotating Bezel. The metal ring that circles the watch face, the rotating bezel has measurement from 0-60. It has a pointer mark at 0 to indicate a starting point, and is a mostly failsafe way to track dive time. To use, align the pointer with the minute hand at the start of your dive. Then, at a glance, you can tell how much time you have before you must come up. A rotating bezel is one-way, which is a safety measure. This means that if the bezel gets bumped hard enough to rotate, it will show a longer dive time — so at worst, you will lose a few minutes of your dive, not get decompression sickness.
- Stopwatch. The top digital display on the CVZ00002J is a chronograph, or stop watch – the perfect tool for endurance sports like running, cycling and swimming. Start the stop watch with the crown, take splits with the bottom left button, change modes with the top left button, and stop the watch again with the crown.
- Tachymeter. Measures speed based on time traveled, or distance based on speed. You can also use your tachymeter to calculate pulse or the speed of your run.
- Day and Date Calendar. If you never remember your athletic commitments, the watch’s bottom digital display will keep you on track with its day and date display and countdown.

Whether you’re an avid runner, occasional hiker, or weekday swimmer, the CVZ00002J will improve your recreational activities by keeping you safe and on time, staying stylish while you do it.
