This CET06001D model is a watch enthusiast favorite – and it is easy to see why. Although it has a sleek, design – featuring a sporty band and case and a really sharp red second hand – the watch certainly does not lack in mechanical functionality.

The model’s dial offers useful attributes, such as the 24-hour subdial, a date indicator and a day subdial (located at the 11, 6 and 3 o’clock positions).

The luminescent hands and hour indicators allow this model’s wearer to view the watch at any time of day or night. Since this watch is mechanical, the watch runs by the power in the spring of the watch. That means – no batteries! As the watch is being worn, it naturally stores power until it is stationary – perfect for someone always on the go. This watch is also water-resistant up to 50 meters – so no need to take it off in the shower!

The crown (that’s the time-setting knob) has two levels to it:

  1. Adjust the date by loosening the crown to the first level.
  2. Control the time and subdials by the second level of the crown.

To change the day subdial:

  1. Rotate the crown until the day-hand pivots.
  2. Bring the hour-hand back to the 12 o’clock position.
  3. Turn the hand clockwise, and it’s set.

The combination of both matte and finished links creates a very intricate look.

The wearer of this watch need not worry about its coming off by accident – the deployment clasp ensures protection.

The dial could be a bit less cluttered (day dials seem a waste of space to me, that’s my personal taste), but the subtle finish on the subdials makes the dial really pop. That case and bracelet, though — wow. I’d love to see a different dial in that case. A classic Explorer homage or aviator style (with luminescent Arabic numerals) would be cool. Or use that 24H complication for a 24h hand and 0-24 chapter ring markings — that’d be irresistible. C’mon, Orient, I keep hoping for a “GMT” model in the US market….
