A guide to buying watches online: Tissot Visodate vs. Orient Bambino

October 23rd, 2012 Posted in Watch Comparisons | 12 Comments

Buying watches online can be challenging. It’s difficult to get an accurate sense of a watch through photos, and it can be even more difficult to find the most affordable and best watch for you.

Today, let’s take a look at two very similar watches from two companies: Tissot Visodate and Orient Bambino. Though similar, these watches have a few exceptional differences.

Tissot, with over 150 years of production, is a renowned Swiss watch company with a variety of stylish watch collections. Orient, a bit younger with its roots dating back to 1900, is a well known Japanese watch company also with a variety of stylish watch collections.

So what are these exceptional differences? Read on!

Tissot Visodate

A fantastic classic timepiece, Tissot introduced the date function of the Visodate in the 1950s in celebration of the company’s centenary. An interesting curved dial pairs well with domed crystal, enunciating the readability of the watch face and especially the date, the watch’s namesake.

Today’s Visodate is not far off from the originals produced in the ‘50s. Maintaining an executive style, the Tissot Visodate is complete with an ETA Swiss caliber 2836-2 movement.

The Tissot Visodate boasts a variety of styles, including watches with very vintage gold cases and roman numerals and ever-sleek watches with black dials and slim indices. Something for everyone is an accurate statement for the collection, but at $650, these watches are quite cost-prohibitive to some.

Let’s check out the competition.

Orient Bambino

A relatively new take on the original mid-century Orients, the Bambino is fast-becoming one of the company’s bestselling and most popular classic executive watches. In fact, check out this online watch review for a more in-depth view of this super stylish watch.

The domed crystal glass offers a vintage feel and easier readability paired with a clean dial including sleek indices and hands as well as a date indicator. You can bet that the Orient Bambino also features one of Orient’s in-house movements. The caliber 48743, specifically, makes this watch tick.

Like the Visodate, not a lot has changed on this watch in comparison to Orient’s similar mid-century models. In fact, the most significant change may be a slight increase in size.

With fewer stylistic offerings than the Visodate, the Bambino still offers a variety of 5 uniquely styled classic watches. The greatest difference is that Bambino is sold for $260, a fraction of Visodate’s price.

How much extra would it be to add a hacking function to orient watches?

I think the Orient Symphony reminds me more of the Tissot Visodate than the Bambino. The Symphony has a flat dial and exhibition case back much like the Visodate. Not to mention it’s even more affordable than the Bambino!

This watch is #1 on my to buy list (white with brown leather band)! It offers a classic look in a modern package (slightly bigger case). I absolutely love, love, and love the domed crystal glass! Super classy!

If a woman’s best friend is diamond, men’s best friend is a watch.

This is an amazing looking watch. I love the black dial with black leather band. This is at the top of my list for future purchases. Love the domed crystal.

I like the Tissot, and I own one, but i also got an Orient Bambino, and it is a beautiful watch, well worth its asking price.

I have been wanting the Tag Heuer Carrera WV211B. Until I saw these Orients. I wish there are more local stores selling Orient watches. I want to see and hold this Bambino or the Symphony.

I own both of these beauties and I find them to be outstanding pieces. The problem is when I need to wear a dress watch, it’s tough to decide which one.

I bought an Orient Bambino four months ago. I’m very happy with it. Generally I prefer diver esthetic watches but the Bambino has become the most usually wereable watch in my working time, when I need a dress watch, so, five days per week.
Fantastic in accuracy, good size and classically beautiful. It transmits high quality, as really expensive watches, but it is really affordable.
